What's EVERYTHING a noob should buy?
HI there im a newbie to straight razor shaving but im very intersted in it. I recently received a razor and its going to lynn to sharpen it (god bless him lol) BUT say i didnt sent it to be sharpened and sharpened it myself what would i need. i kno u should prolly get a 1000 4000 and 8000 nortons. does a regular strop work? or do u need a strop on a paddle with that "paste" stuff (if someone could clarify what those micron pastes or chlorium oxide or w.e that stuff it it would help) when you buy a dovo straight from classic shaving would u needa start on the 1000 when it gets dull? or do you start on the 4000 or 8000 when it gets dull? also do you NEED a lapping stone? can you shave off of a 4000? do u need anything hire then a 8000? i kno its a lot but the lowdown on all this stuff would help a ton thanks very much !!!

Since you're already getting a razor honed professionally, all you really need is a strop. If you want to touch-up your own razor instead of sending it out to get honed again, a simply barber hone will do you well.
If you want to venture into honing, the Norton 4k/8k is probably the best bang for the buck. You really don't need anything higher than 8k, but if you do, getting a seperate strop or a piece of balsa pasted with chromium oxide is all you really need. Chromium oxide will work well for touch-ups too if you want to pass on a barber hone.
