    Default general naniwa question

    do hte bases on these hones come off or are they glued on there

    glued tightly. You can however get baseless ones too.

    I hate the base on mine and keep thinking of doing something about it, but obviously I never get around to it! I have very limited bench space and all my other stones fit into a cheap stone-holder (well, on it actually - the rubber pads appear to be non-slip enough for me and because I am constantly using it the adjuster nuts are rusted stiff) but the naniwa doesn't. It will be sorted out one of these fine days...

    Naniwa uses glue that is pretty strong and makes the removal of the base a bit of a challenge.
    Some people have had success with warming up the base with a blow dryer.
