Default About to hone for the first time

I made a balsa paddle strop it has .5 Crox and 1.0 spray and will be doing my first touch up soon. I was wondering when honing on a paddle do I lead with the blade like on a stone or with the spine like a strop?

I have only used the paddle ... balsa or otherwise leading with the spine as with a strop. I would think that you would run into trouble leading with the edge as on a hone.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I understand it should be done as if it were a strop.
