Diamond Spray and Felt

Hi All,

I saw in one of Lynn's honing videos he mentioned that he had tried diamond spray on felt and liked the edges from it.

I tried it, and not that we really need to confirm that Lynn knows what he is talking about, but it's superb. I used the .25 spray on heavy duty felt. I took an edge that was already super sharp and smooth and did 7 strokes on the felt and nothing else I have tried compares to this. I bought some extra felt pads and tried cromium oxide and the effect was nowhere near as good. I don't know exactly what it is about the diamond spray but it's a good combo. Definately worth the $30 it costs.

I've never purchased felt in my life. Do you have any specific sources or recommendations as to where and what to purchase? Thanks

I just went to home depot and bout a couple peices. THey had medium and hard. I would buy one of each to try out.

Your felt didn't puff up and go "chia pet" on you? Mine got a drop of water and turned into an afro!

I have been trying the 0.25 diamond on the felt and found that any more than 10 light strokes and it seems to dull. Now I am doing 20 on the 0.50 on leather then 10 on 0.25 and liking the results.

What else can diamond spray be applied to? Balsa, maybe?

Anything! LOL

I have read of people using it on newspaper, copy paper, various woods including balsa, MDF, tons of different leathers, canvas, seat belt, cast iron, granite flattening plates, and even spraying it on their finest grit hone for a finer finish.....

I think so long as it's nice and flat, anything would work for the diamond sprays.

Ditto. I have some left over granite from a job and would like to make a few paddle strops but can't find felt.

At my Home Depot it was in the section with the felt "feet" you put on the bottom of chairs for hardwood floors, and things you put under furnitures' feet so you can slide them around.

The pad's they had were small, like 6" x"4 but that will do the trick just fine.
