Thanked: 7Two part question about my new stone
The stone is a 16k shapton ceramic on glass.
1a. Do I need to lap the stone before I use it?
b. If so can I use my 1000 grit wet dry paper on glass to do so?
Thanks for all your help.

Thanked: 4942I have used the Shapton 16K without lapping when new and not had any problems. I use the DMT 325 for lapping though.

Thanked: 20I check my glass stones by using a reference granite block that is guaranteed dead-flat and some wet/dry sand paper. I take the stone and and draw zig zags from one end to the other, after which, I place it atop of the sad paper and give it a few back and forth strokes. After a few passes, you can lift up the stone and check to see what remains of the pencil marks. Uneven removal of pencil marks show an uneven surface.
