Hello Tom. I don't really count strokes anymore. I just go by feel. I can feel the little imperfections in the blade when they clear up. On the lower grits I use circles, back and forth AKA Mastro Livi style and regular one stroke per side of the blade. I have the 500 for chips in the blade which works well and then all the rest except the 3K. If I have a bunch of blades to do I refresh the stone after doing about 3 or 4 blades on each stone with the DGLP. The progression goes pretty quick with maybe 20 strokes from the 8K on up. When touching up on the 30K it could be as little as 10 strokes. I also have a small microscope that I use to check the edge. This is with the glass stones.

Thanked: 43Thanks BJ!
I've been experimenting with "just how many licks it takes" to get over-honed on the 30K's. I've evened out at about 15 on the 30k, doing about 5 extremely light strokes at a time and checking under the scope.
It's almost a shame to use the stone so little...
For everyone: Would you recommend a latigo or horsehide stropping after the 30K?
