Yea, even I didn't know that! I usually just strop it off on my hand. Good info....

I have to disagree with Randy on the strop. I love my 3 1/4" much better than my old 2 1/2. It is much easier to use.

I have the 2" Dovo best Russian from Ray, and I can't imagine a better hanging strop; the leather is AWESOME. (Tonymiller's paddles are the bomb too). I HAVE been eyeing those wide jobs Richie-Z; maybe I'll try one out. There is nothing like the rythm (Zen) of a good stropping job on a good hanger.

The reason I like the wider strop is you can go up and back with out the pyramid motion you need with the narrower strops. I am a morning shaver and its real easy for me to cut the strop if I have to do anything but up and back.

    Hello RichZ,

Just a question for you. Some people have noticed that a wider strop tends to "cup" after a time. Have you had that experience?
By the way. I just went in and actually measured the width of some of my strops. They ranged from 2" tp 2 1/2 " and of those I like the 2 1/2" the best.
I seldom use the 2" strop.

To each his own of course and frankly the variety of toys that we can play with is half the fun of this obsession!

    Hi Randy,

You are truly right about the variance of equipment. I haven't cut the strop yet. I shouldn't have opened my mouth .

I believe whatever gets you a clean shave is ok by me. I just find the 3" easier I guess I am a tad lazy about it.

I've only used a 3" strop during all of my <1 month experience with straights. Never had any problem with cupping. I ordered (2) 3x24" strips of treated leather from Keith at Hand American for the whopping price of $14.95. Wonderful leather, great strops. I hung these on a salvaged brass swivel. Works for me!
