I grew tired of my 1k ceramic clogging after an hour of use while trying to bevel set 2 of my 3 wedges.

So I went to Rockler and bought a DMT 650 grit diamond credit card size hone.

Took it home and without water went to town in circles. I had those wedges bending to my will in no time flat.

Where have you been all my life DMT 650?

I did not stop until I could shave arm hair off at 650. I moved to a freshly lapped 1k, 2.5/3k, 6k, 1mic balsa, .5mic balsa, linen and leather.

All the wedges came out great except the bengall. That one I needed to bread knife so it is going to take a while longer.

Here are my questions. One of the wedges is a 7/8 smiley full wedge, but only the spine and edge touch the stone. So is this a full wedge or a near wedge? The other 5/8 is more of a full wedge but it has an hourglass profile. The middle of the blade tapers in slightly so that it does not touch the stone. Again a near wedge or a wedge?

The 7/8 shaves really well. The throat will be a challenge. I had to clean up with my Schick this morning. The 5/8 just did not seem to hone up as good as the 7/8. Should I go back to the 6k or the 2.5/3k to start over?
