Too Much Chromium Oxide...
on my hanging leather strop. It was Chromium that Classic Shaving sells, which I assume is .50, and was hard to spread so I ended up putting too much on. Rubbed as much off as I could with a dry rag. Any other steps I could try to lighten the coating?

Actually if you just want to remove the excess some leather conditioner will do that. Just use it very sparingly don't soak it. Just dampen it barely.

Thanked: 127I have seen it recommended that you not use your strop with crox. Since you have, however, it seems you have quite inadvertently applied it correctly to the surface. The idea of using this product is to apply it to the surface and then remove as much of it as you can, leaving the pours only filled with it. This provides the best, and most consistent, presentation of the product to your razors edge. Be very careful with using it though. Use very light strokes, not many maybe 6 to 10, and be careful not to roll the edge. When used more agressively, you can actually remove your current sharp edge and require honing to bring it back.
Be careful!

Have you tried getting a bunch of paper towels and just rubbing them up and down the strop until they're solid green? Then throw that one away and get a new one. Repeat until the surface starts to look more of a light green color.
Worked for me when I overloaded one of my strops.

After nearly a week of letting this strop dry I can still wipe off some CROX with a paper towel. Should I continue to wipe it off until I can't...or is this normal.
