Thread: Taping the spine when removing chips.

I didn't even know we had an advanced honing forum, but I went over there and now I understand way more than I knew about taping when honing. My theory (taping for only the rough hones) would have left me honing a new bevel at whatever point I removed the tape.

I only use tape on ornamental spines or repairs (like a chipped edge). Once a repair is done, the tape comes off and the bevel is quick to reestablish.
