Thanked: 39Newbie needs a honing mentor
OK guys, I just got my shave ready razor and my Norton Stones coarse/1000 and 4K/8k and a DTM-8c diamond to hone the stones.
I also have three inexpensive not shave ready str8s to practice with and have viewed the videos.
Problem is, I didn't learn to fly from a video and one can't learn brain surgery from a video. So what I would like to find is a mentor that I could get some "hands on" guidance from. An hour of "real time" is worth ten hours in a simulator!
Portland is a bit far to go for me to the next event, so......
I live in Houston, so any honers in the Houston area willing to give me some of their expertise? FWIW, I can make a mean Martini (with Russian Standard!).
I'm an old dog, but can be taught new tricks.
Regards,

PM MParker762 and KenRup to see if they can help you. Ken is in SA, but that's not too far for you to go on a road trip. MParker is in Houston too, but he's busy with work these days. He's also very modest about his honing skills, but I'm confident you'd find his advice helpful... Also, Bob Allman is a razor maker over in Baytown that you might want to contact... (he's also a member here).
I live a couple hour's drive north, but I think the guys I mentioned would be a better resource for you.

Thanked: 39I shall pm them. Thanks. Houston and Baytown are easy. And a road trip? Hah, all I needed was an excuse!
Besides, I know this Cantina....... oh never mind, for another time!
