Naniwa 12K can't bring my razor back to life..
Or should I say I can't bring it back to life??
My Friodur was pulling and I tried to bring it back to life and I can't. I am sure it is me, but I just can't get it to "that point" where it pops hairs and just melts the hair off my arm or face. How many laps on my 12K should it take. I must be doing something wrong. Do need to go get a norton 4K/8K?
Help.
I would like to be able to fix this myself. If not, I am going to have to send it off.

I tend to go back to square 1 with stuff like that but if I were you I would probably drop back to the 8k and see if that doesn't bring it back. If not then the 4/8 with a conservative pyramid. Not necessarily 'right' but what I would do.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 13245plus 1 with Jimmy sort of...
For me it depends on the system I am using, my normal rule is drop two and go...
If I finished with the Naniwa's as you are saying then I would drop back two stones then start there...
The 4/8 small pyramid works like a champ though for getting stuff really sharp, then hitting the finisher like Jimmy said...

Hi,
+ 1 on what JimmyHAD & GSSixgun have said.
I am very much a honing newbie, but I have found the best results were to be had by going back to a conservative pyramid 4/8 K Norton or 3/5 K Naninwa) and then work upwards.
It doesn't add too much time to the edge refresh to start with the pyramid
Best regards

Thanked: 127+1 on what Jimmy and Glenn said.
Since you seem to be so close to the smoothness you are looking for, I would be cautious with the pressure you use when going back also. Use very light strokes at this point.
Something else I have found, and this might not be the case, is that some razors seem to get smoother after the first shave. I haven't quite figured out why this happens, but it does. Try evaluating your second shave and see if it is any better.
