Thanked: 398Yellow Coticule or combination
Hey guys,
I'm trying to figure out whether to get a coticule wtih slurry stone or a combination. I already have a bevel setter (DMT 1200), but I'm trying to get just one other stone to keep my razors going without ever having to get them honed.
Opinions?
Thanks!

Thanked: 398So you think I would be able to fully hone a razor with the DMT 1200 followed by Coticule with diluted slurry +just water?

For sure. I hone everything with just a coticule (and rough sandpaper for chips). Check Bart's posts for more info, also in the Wiki, it's truly an excellent hone...

Thanked: 398What size stone do you use? And what's your typical routine when honing a razor ( type of slurry, # of strokes etc)
Thanks!

Thanked: 398haha I did. I'm re-entering the straight razor world after a few months on the dark side (let's not go there) so I have to buy everything again. I kept my DMT 1200 though.

Thanked: 286no problem at all just as you say. If i had set bevel on dmt i would go to my coticule with regular slurry and do 50 laps i then add one to two drops of water and do 20 laps then i do 30 and just two drops of water i repeat this untill slurry has vanished and as the slurry get realy thin i would do %50 to 60 laps for at least 2 or 3 sets then finish on plain water for 50 laps rinse hone again and do another 50 laps i then take a chest hair because they are denser and i can pass hht normaly qiute well to only just then 50 linen 50 leather and i can then pass hht on finer hair fairly easy of my stomack hair the shave is then always great. if you want you can add 10 laps on cro.5 or paste of your choice i like issards pate. have alook on coticule.be in the sharpening section.
