My Search for the Perfect Loupe

With loupes as with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Well, the bleomo are supposed to be pretty good. I found a objective review page that ranked them well. I doubt that its necessary to spend 100$+ on a loupe to look at blade edges, my 7.00 12X does an adequate job. If I was buying it for photography, gemstones, ect, I'd consider a really expensive one.

Its all a matter of how much detail you want to see in the blade. If you really want to clearly see the blade you will need a higher quality one. If you only care about being able to see a microchip then the cheaper ones will serve you.

magnifying glass can't get the type of magnification you need to see the edge with enough detail, I believe.

So which one of these be better suited for our intended purpose?

16.5 X CLIP- ON EYE GLASS MAGNIFIER LOUPE STEAMPUNK - eBay (item 350278687158 end time Nov-20-09 05:52:27 PST)

NEW BelOMO 20x Jewelers Loupe Loupes Magnifier Glass - eBay (item 300355497025 end time Dec-07-09 14:37:27 PST)

If I could hang the first one off a baseball hat or something, that would seem to be handy? While the second one would probably produce better image, correct?

Thank you so much guys!!! Without you guys, I would have to buy several and figure out which is best suited for my needs. you are saving me time and money. so again thank you for all the help!!!!

I think I'll be happy seeing 35$ worth of detail.

If I had other uses for loupe (or extra money) I might go for more...
