working my Wonderedge
I think I need some help. I am going to attach three pictures. Would one of you honemeisters please let me know if this looks worth the time. I have spent several hours already. Working on my Norton 4Kx8k. Can't seem to get the pictures attached. Will keep trying. jmsbcknr

Just looking at the pictures the first looks ok to me the seconds has some micro serrations buts its probably ok also. The third doesn't look that good lots of little chips in the blade. Of course you need to shave to see what happens thats the acid test. The scratch lines on the blades look good though. Whats the magnification?

Thanked: 2209Go back to a coarser grit, 1000, and even out that edge.
Use some 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper and lay it on a flat surface such as on top of your 4000/8000 hone. Bend the edges over the side of the hone.Be sure and wet the paper well. Use an edge leading honing motion. Check after every 25 laps. I would put tape on the spine until the edge is even. Use a nagura stone if you have it when the sandpaper starts to wear down.
Then remove the tape and start on the 4000 grit hone for about 25 laps to get the bevel formed again. Then use a pyramid of
4000/8000
15/5
10/5
5/5
3/5
3/5
3/5
1/5
1/5
1/5
using whatever sharpness test of your choice at various times during the honing.
If you still do not like the edge finsh with 10-15 laps on the 8000 stone and test again.
If still not satisfiied then go back to the pyramid ansd start at the 10/5 step and work down.
Still not satisfied? Go back to the pyramid and start at the 5/5 and work down.
By now you will have started developing a feel for the rate of change that occurs and you can adjust the pyramid accordingly.
Hope this helps,Last edited by randydance062449; 11-28-2005 at 10:51 AM.

Thanks for the help. Will work it with my Norton 1000K. Good to have experienced eyes on the project.
