Default What do you think of this vintage coticule?

    Hey,

I'm a total newb and had been thinking about getting a coticule as a finishing stone. The new ones are 70-80 bucks for the 6 inch by 1.5-2 inch variety, so I thought I'd try to get one on ebay. A fellow member of another forum pointed me to one that was selling on ebay and was supposedly a vintage coticule. It's about the same size as the 80 dollar ones. With shipping, it's gonna cost around that range. I'd heard vintage coticules tend to be better stones so I thought I'd bid and see what I could get.
Did I just get ripped off like an idiot, or is this actually a decent stone? The pictures aren't super clear, but thought they might be of some help.
Here's the link for the auction that just ended:

    Thanks

Hard to tell what you bought from those crappy pictures. It looks like a wooden box with a yellow label that says coticule. The stone seems to be blue which can't be a coticule unless a very dirty one however it may be the bottom of a vintage coticule which is usually a BBW.

    Fingers crossed!

Hope so too. The color of the stone in the second picture looks similar to some of these so hopefully it's an actual coticule and not a BBW.

The second picture shows a labeled box (le caisson) if I'm not mistaken.

Hmmmm you may be right. I thought the second photo was the stone taken out of the box with the yellow side up. As you said previously.... fingers crossed.

See that's what I'm not sure about. If that's the box, it's really unfortunate, because the color is right in the range of coticule colors.
I sent the seller a message asking. It's kinda too late now, but I'd like to know anyways. Perhaps I can work something out with him if it isn't what I thought it was.
    Anyone else have any guesses?

Uh oh. Got a seller response and the stone is black according to the seller.
The picture was indeed of the box.

I am not sure what ebay or paypal's policies are in Belgium but the seller sold that stone as a coticule. A bbw is not a coticule and if it is not a coticule you deserve a full refund including shipping both ways AFAIC.
