Thanked: 12Hone Identification
Today I purschased a bag of straight razors and a bag of hones from an older collectors estate. In the bag of hones I found one marked:
Franz Swaiy
Wahring Beiwien
Austria
Would it be suitable for use in honing a straight razor?
Thanks

Thanked: 96Franz Swaty.
Considered to be one of the best if not the best barber hones out there. Other than the ultra-high priced natural stone's (Eschers).
Yes it will work fine. Make sure you lap it. And be forewarned... these take a LOOOOOOOOOONG time to lap. I recently got one that appeared to have never been used and it took over an hour on 220grit to lap.
I'd estimate it's grit as ~10.5k based on mine.
