Lol yes you can shave right off that 1k. I've shaved with the kitchen knife before. There's definitely merit to getting it smoother though (ironic considering in another thread I'm ranting about obsessiveness- but 1k is really harsh). No stropping wont help. That was my idea when I tried with my first ebay blade way back in March- "well this can cut paper so its sharp, if I strop it enough maybe I can shave".

    200 laps- negative.
    300 laps- negative.

So I sent it out to be honed and oh boy what a difference!

Hypothetically I might grow a goatee with my 1k edge. Additionally i would have to get some kind of abrasive: preferred some diamond or crom.

I simply too much a fan of hangers to use boards, so I'd make a very simple thin(4oz or 6 i guess) 2x14 inch to charge

Such a rough'nready set may leave patches where one is prone to them, but should keep the goat trimmed up and cheeks smooth

you can't just set the bevel and call it 1k. You have to fuss over it with sets of backstrokes(4 perhaps less)3:1 or so, ending with a backstroke, maybe 2 per side. to be started as soon as it shaves arm hair

-I think that is a decent enough way to finish on any stone, but at this level it shows a lot of thinning and smoothing of the edge ime. Of coarse when progressing finer hones there is no benefit to overworking the edge on each stone
