Thanked: 11Thanks for all the info!
I just got into straight razor shaving and bought some ebay specials. At first I didn't know what a sharp straight razor was and destroyed my face for a week.
After reading the information here and working with some Norton 1000 4000 and 8000 grit stones I was finally able to get a blade to shave pretty close and not leave me with bad razor burn.
Thanks SRP!

Welcome to SRP ! Glad it's working so well for you.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 11Thanks for the Welcome.
"Ebay specials" I think Lynn talked about them in one of his videos. I took it to mean, "An inexpencive antique razor of dubious quality being auctioned on Ebay".
For example, I bought a George Wostenholm and Son razor which ended up having some pretty heavy honing on the toe and a deep rust pit that didn't show up in the pictures.
I bought four razors in all. Each of them cost between 15 to 18 dollars. The ones in best shape turned out to be a "Shapleigh HDWE. Co. St. Louis .U.S.A." and a ".W.H Sample & Sons CAPITOL RAZOR ALBANY N.Y." Nothing special but I need to see if I'm going to be serious about shaving before I spend the big bucks.
