Just be mindful of a few things depending on the type of adhesive you are going to use. If you use epoxy, too much clamping pressure can work against you... but if you use gorilla glue (or another poly glue) you will need some clamping pressure because the glue expands quite a bit while it's curing (enough to push the two surfaces apart and ruin the joint).

You might try to lay it on a piece of glass or a saw table to make sure it is flat and square when you glue it.

Thanked: 5That Gorilla Glue is AMAZING stuff. I use it on all my outdoor woodwork, it cures using moisture so one side would need to be wet. It will need to be clamped as, as said earlier, it does expand. Then finally scrap the excess off and lap your hone and it should be good!

Thanked: 259sorry to hear about your mishap..i have seen some of the hones that have 2 sides to them being sold on ebay, but did not pay attention to the makes of them. hopefully the glue process will work well for you and you can get many more years of use from it.. i know how upset i would be if i broke one of my 2 barber hones or my norton or my chinese and japanese waterhones..let us know how the repair works. it would be good information for future reference

I am also a fan of gorillaglue.
It does bond stone and ceramic, it is waterproof.
IMPORTANT: it is water activated and it EXPANDS.
So if you use it make sure the rock is well clamped.
If it is a clean break the odds are good that it will
recover the stone. You can experiment on some
busted brick if you have some.

Serendipity
A couple of days ago I was (gently) drying off my Swaty hone after I finished touching up a straight and the darn thing split in half. There were no cracks that I had seen prior...it just separated into 2 pieces as if was trying to repel itself.
Long story short, I read this thread, went to my local Menards, bought some Gorilla Glue and glued it back together. I'll be darned if it doesn't feel pretty solid. The lapping test is still to come...need to break down and buy some form of DMT plate. That will probably have to wait until after Xmas...
However, I probably should have checked the forum BEFORE I hit the Bay to find a replacement.
