Thanked: 40Finally!
I finally broke down today and took the plunge to start honing my own razors. Armed with my Christmas present to myself the GDLP from SRD, I lapped my Norton 1K, 4/8K, and 12K Naniwa.
After re-watching Lynn's video to make sure I had the stroke down I reached into the top drawer and pulled out an ebay special.
Using a sharpie (which I HIGHLY recommend for new honers) I got to work on a nice even and level stroke. Sure enough, after about 140 passes on the 1K it was popping hairs.
I moved to the 4K then 8K. I believe I did 40 laps, then 20 laps respectively. I finished with 10 laps on the 12K.
Moved into the bathroom and stropped it up. After a quick batch of uber lather I took a deep breath and ... bingo! Right side burn gone! There was no catching and the razor felt really good.
Now it was no where near "sharp" as I have had razors, but it still felt good. I couldn't believe I did it!! After dancing around the house for a bit I finished the shave.
I just wanted to share and thank everyone at SRP who has contributed to the site/webcasts/wiki/etc. What a great community!
I can't wait to do a quick freshen up on the 12K for a very lonely Puma that has been sitting on a shelf as it just wasn't there for a while.

Don't worry, the dancing will lessen but the feeling will always be just as good
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
