Another world
All i can say is Wow! just had a look at my blade through a watchmakers eyepiece,It's like another world,i thought my blade was in good condition but having looked at it now i found 4 chips in it!Needless to say although they look quite large in microworld you can't see them with the naked eye.Would never had thought of looking at it this way until i read about it here in the forum. So All you smug people out there thinking your blade is A1 take a look into microworld there could be a surprise/shock waiting for you.

True enough! We've also seen a lot of people at the other end of the spectrum. Lots of nicks and a "so-what it shaves" attitude.
Even if you try it can be hard to get rid of some of those nicks for good.
I've always suspected that most of those tiny nicks are caused by the "landing" of the blade when you flip the razor. I make sure the edge touches down like a little butterfly.

I kinda flip back and forth between wanting my edges to be perfect and not caring if there are some little nicks so long as I can get good shaves. I've found that as I've gone along, my idea of a "good shave" has evolved to have higher standards, and, in general, I'm more particular about my edges these days. Microscopes can be a great tool if you know what you are looking for, but they can also drive you nuts if you strive for perfection. Gotta maintain a balance between how the edge looks and how in performs, or you'll really drive yourself insane.

Like with everything else you can go over board and it almost becomes a fetish. I realize no one around here obsesses about their edges do they? Har Har.
