What do you mean by "bevel the hone"? Do you mean I got to put a bevel on the edges of the hone? The edge is a bit rough but I dont feel that is the problem, especially as the heel doesn't suffer the same problem. Waht I nowadays do is guide the razor over the hone with the 4 fingers of one hand on the spine and using the thumb of the same hand to support the shank. my other hand is not used until I turn the blade and it takes over. That way I do te X-pattern or even have the razor at 45 dergrees on the hone so that the entire length of the blade is in contact with the hone at all times, with the exception of the last 1/5 of the cutting edge which unfortunately doesn't touch the hone when the entire spine and other 4/5 of the cutting edge do. I am still toying with the idea to let that last 1/5 be and as time passes and the razor is re-honed a couple of times I hope wear of the other 4/5 will eventually allow the entire length of the blade to be in contact with the hone.
