I get lots of feedback from the regular thumb test. WhenI nick myself, sometimes I can't feel it happen at all so I would expect the edge to cut in well before it gives enough feedback to tell. Lynn even talked about an Egyptian TI tht cut through a cloth and into his hand once before he felt it.

If you do try it, let us know how many fingers you loose (kidding, here's hoping for your safety)

I have heard of a test like this using only one finger. I don't doubt with practice it'll work. I would think by now you'd feel like I do though. That you just instinctively know when the blade is sharp.

Yeah, I guess you are right. There are many feedback alternatives to this test. Just a thought.

    Kdog,

It doesn't look much different than the tpt. I do the 3fingers on kitchen knives - usually the thumb pad for razors. 'No reason you couldn't calibrate your touch to the finger pads, but the pads on my thumbs are a bit thicker.

I also use HHT a fair amount - with all its flaws. When all the tests are done, I'll believe a face in a shave test every time. Keep doing the fingerpad tests as long as it helps. If something better comes along - pls. share.

This test might work best if you use fingers other than your own. Excuse me, does this feel sharp to you?

I too will be sticking to the shave test.

The most important thing to remember with these tests is that you shouldn't cheat ......
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
