Default Need to have some razors honed

I'm a newbie here and I don't have a stone or a strop yet (but I'm working on it). Anyway, I've 3 eBay razors that are on the way to me. I'd like to send them to someone that can hone and strop them so they're ready to shave and I can get started with them. I'm in Los Angeles (if that matters) and I'll gladly pay for the honing and stropping. Thanks.

    Ed,

I'm sure you'll find plenty of people who are glad to hone your razor for you, and that doesn't have to be done all that often. If you're rotating through three razors, and you're careful not to drop them or ding them, and you strop correctly and regularly, and... well, there are lots of variables, but probably anywhere from six months on up before they'd need to be honed again.

However, you /will/ need a strop. You have to strop your razor before each time you shave with it to keep the edge in line. Your hairs are actually tougher than the razor edge, and will put microscopic dings in it that have to be straightened out with the leather strop. If you don't strop, pretty soon you'll be shaving with a machete. A dull machete.

Tony Miller, one of the members here, has some great strops, and I think has 'seconds' that are pretty cheap, if money is an issue. Classicshaving.com also has strops of all shapes and sizes. Or, you could use a wide belt, but a good strop will last you a very long time, so it's pretty much just an intitial outlay.

    Good luck!
