Finally Broke Down
...and bought a couple hones. I figure I've read enough here and watch enough of the vids to give it a whirl. Have a decent batch of razors I got off of e-bay about a year ago I plan to learn on. Ordered the Naniwa 8000 and 12k.

Good choice of hones. You may want to add a polishing hone later

12K Naniwa is a great polishing hone, what you will need is to go lower. how low depends on if you will be setting bevels or not.

I bought the same stones last month.
5k, 8k and the 12 k. Naniwa SS.
I find that both touch-ups and polishing works great off of these stones.
Heck, I even sat a bevel on a brand new one. Took a bit of time, but now it shaves just fine.Bjoernar

The 12K will do just fine as a touch-up hone. The 8K would make the process go a bit quicker; but, it is not essential. Without the 8K, you'll just have to spend a little more time with the 12K. Originally Posted by paco
