    Default Money Well Spent

I was over at the mall this afternoon and stopped in at Radio Shack and purchased one of those $12 pocket microscopes. When I got home I figured I'd give it a try. Looking at the edge of 2 razors that Lynn had honed for me I saw an evenly sized well defined bevel, nice parallel micro-scratches and a smooth (not jagged) edge.

I've got 4 eBay specials that I've restored. Three of them are fantastic shavers but one has always given me fits trying to get a good shave. So I looked at it with the little scope. What I found was that I hadn't ever gotten a proper bevel set. So back to the 4K and up through the rest of the stones (it was popping hairs off my arm off the 8K) and within a 1/2 hour I lathered up and got an extremely smooth shave.

Long story short, I think that's one of the best 12 bucks I've spent. I know there's a lot of ways of checking an edge but you sure can't beat actually seeing what's going on.

Thanks, in the last few days I have grabbed a few (lol) specials off E bay myself and am now getting ready to start to practice honing and polishing etc...I will add a scope of some kind to my shopping list. Much appreciated.
