Default sharp from one side only?

Tried for some time to get 1 razor sharp but with no sucess.
When I test it with my thumb it feels kind of sharp from one side but not from the other! I´m very far from a experienced user of hones but have not come across this result with any of my other razors.
    Any comments most welcome

In the past when this topic came up one of the possibilities presented was a rolled edge. IOW, improper honing or stropping dulled one side and not the other. Just a thought.

What type razor are you having trouble with?
What type razors do you not have this trouble with?

I would be interested whether the problem razor has rust? Is a wedge, or something less than a full hollow ground? Etc.

The razor is a World Class, 6/8. It´s never been shave ready since I bought it.
My other razors are most of the 5/8 size.

common problem will be not properly bevel set.
Your last post a little confusing one. did you buy this razor from bay? or "shave ready" from one of us?
At the moment i would go 1k and set the bevel then move on.
Remember if you set bevel each time you move up on grit stones your blade should get sharper on both sides.
    hope this helps.

    Thanks for replying.
The razor was bought on internet(Ebay) and looked in OK condition. No rust or anything. But I will go back on 1K grit as you suggested and if I can´t progress from there it goes to the bin.
    Fascinating but time consuming!

You are missing 1 big or most important necessities to hone blade.
It is patience. if you don't have it then you will have hard time to learn honing.
Razors are so different from 1 another you don't get similar razor to act hones.
    BE PATIENT.
Now go 1k and move one you must set bevel at first.
Very important what are you trying to hone. in case it is wedge then i think will better you make sure your edge makes contact with the stone use MARKER TEST FOR IT.
set bevel check with microscope(loope etc) you have edge from to heel to toe on both sides . Then move to your next grit stone.

Remember if you have close grit stones use them all.
    what i mean.
    if you have 1k,3k,4, 6k 8k then 10k
    use in order
    Dont use 1k-4-8k system.
As close grits are you will have less mistake and loose less time.
    hope this helps.
i don't know what you mean by "BIN."

    I have a similar problem-
I have a W R Case I bought in the box many years ago-
I can see the bevel on one side but not the other-
It shaves very well but what the heck do I know? I am
    sure it could be better-

I only have the Norton 1/4/8

    I will look for a 3 & 6K somewhere- Suggestions??

Should I work the not bevel side on the 1K until it shows up?

    Getting a .25 diamond & .50 CrOx strop in about a week-
Can anyone give me an opinion as to the grit equivalent of
the .25 diamond and the .50 Crox?? I have read in the Wiki
and seen the science numbers but still do not get it-
    Grit # I get

    Thanks Guys-

If it shaves very well I wouldn't worry about what I couldn't see. If it didn't shave very well than it would be time to worry about resetting bevels. If you had some form of magnification you would undoubtedly find a bevel on both sides. One maybe far narrower than the other. If you want a higher grit finisher a naniwa 12k is a great stone. Here is a post explaining the diamond paste relative to the grits found in hones.

    Thanks Guys-
In fact if it shaves very well you shouldn't be worry about it. Question is do you know how properly honed blade should shave?
have you ever had your blade properly honed and shave with that blade?
now how you sure it could be better?
Please answer that questions then we may be more helpful.

sometimes you cannot see the bevel but razor shaves great . shaving is more important the seen the bevel. Bevel could be so small you cannot see with naked eyes specially taped blade.
    hope this helps.
