Thread: Using same stone for knives & razors?

the best medicine is to learn to use the whole stone. Lap as required.

Cay you use it ? of course if your Arkansas fine enough answer will be yes + you must lap it after using on knifes.
is this advisable i personally don't think so.
Why?
i think Razor edge is so fine a little mistake will cost you too much.( i am talking about finishing stage )you have to go back and at least 4 k level and fix the problem move up again.
This is why i should say go head use finishing stones for razor 's only you will have less headache.

@bud: You have a point. Probably there won't be a problem, but if there IS a problem, it will likely be a big enough problem that using the stone for dual purposes will not have been worth it.

Side note: so far I'm pretty pleased with my homemade slate hones for kitchen knives. Too coarse for your Gyuto, but for a crude chopper that's slammed repeatedly into a cutting board, they work quite nicely.

There are a lot of things that I can do that I don't. Using knives on my razor hones is on that list. It's not worth it to me.
