Thanked: 116http://straightrazorpalace.com/strop...ke-pt-2-a.html
I don't see why it'd be any different than maintaining it on a progression of treated hanging strops.

Thanked: 177I just stopped looking for the perfect edge. I tried crox, diamond slurry on felt, sub micron film on granite and pasted leather. My last hone I did was reset the bevel, 1200 dmt, norton 4/8 and the 12k then 30 laps latigo and 50 bridle. Excellent shave and I didnt feel like trying to figure out which strop to use, what paste etc and shaving trying to figure out if it was better or worse than the last shave. I can shave great off the 12k. And if I need a touchup, 10 laps, 10 x strokes and Im golden.

Given that we have so many talented "honemasters" it makes sense to keep
this trick in mind.
CrOx is a very good abrasive for steel and a block of dense wood or solid backed leather
can carry a good load of CrOx abrasive. As the black tone of my CrOx loaded wood backed
leather strop attests a lot of steel falls to the CrOx.
By stropping on CrOx the "sweet spot" of a professionally razor might well be extended for a long time
for a minimum investment. It will not repair a rolled edge but normal use does challenge the edge
and when used correctly many will be pleased.
A while back I posted about my "Green Monster" a near three foot long balsa strop.
I can tell you that it perfects a well made edge but does not replace a stack of hones.
When you need a stack of hones... send the blade to a honemaster. When you need
to tune a shaver -- give the solid back wood or leather strop a go with your favorite sub-micron
bits on it. Should your or a neighbor be putting in a hardwood floor keep an eye out for
unfinished scraps about 2' long. While the saw is still there buzz off the tongue and groove
relieve the edges, paste and enjoy.
Because these load up with swarf so quickly they are not well suited for many of the the professional honemasters
out there. However for those of us that are simple shavers with a couple three razors this is a good
tool.
