    what are the best dimensions for a hone. I'm a newbie and i'm thinking about getting a coticule and i'm on a limited budget

    The best source of coticule information is Coticule.be - home of the famous Belgian Coticule Whetstone. Make sure you sign up (register) for membership and go to The Cafeteria.

    The best size is the one you feel most comfortable with. Additionally, Coticule and budget are mutually exclusive. And since you did not divulge what exactly you are trying to achieve with that hone (or hones), I recommend that you read What hone(s) do I need? - Straight Razor Place Wiki. While a Coticule is a very useful tool in the hands of a professional, chances are you will get more consistent results in less time using eg a Norton 4/8k and a balsa hone with Chromium or Cerium oxide.

    As an aside, while coticule.be is an excellent site in its own right, I would be hesitant to dismiss the massive amount of experience with these hones present at SRP.
