    Wouldn't you think that in this day and age, with our levels of technology and manufacturing moxie, that we would have finally eliminated those basic, primitive organic components? Kinda makes you wonder what those brownish/blackish scales are made of, or how much bleach is needed to turn your basic, primitive organic materials into that whitish/ivory stuff.

    Nanis do have sort of a chalky layer above the "real" hone that needs lapping off. This top layer wets evenly, you'll be able to easily recognize the 'real' stuff because it has a more speckled look when wet... almost tie-die type patterns. You'll see the difference.

    Coating might not be the right word, I think BK actually describes it better right above this post..

    THere is a sticker on the stone that you can peel off. Fresh natural taste ou can taste.
