    Default Honing advise

Just learning how to hone and have a quick question. When the razor is resting flat on the hone just before a stroke should there be a need to tilt the razor forward in order to get the full length of the cutting edge to fully contact the surface of the hone? Or is this a sign of a poorly made or bent blade. Thanks in advance.

If you mean a slight heel forward slant, yes many of us hone that way..

If you mean lift the spine to bring the edge to bear NO that is not right

You might really want to start in the Wiki under the honing section to see the excellent images of honing stokes...
Be sure to follow the links to the original threads as many questions are asked and answered in the threads, the Wiki has the condensed versions...

Welcome to SRP. There is a great video of Lynn honing here and another 9 part video series on honing here. These may help if you haven't seen them already. The SRP Wiki here has a whole honing section with more tutorials and videos as well. Let us know what you are honing and what you are honing it with.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
