Kevin, that spine wear at the point end looks pretty uneven to me. I've honed a few with serious frowns and they had heavy spine wear in between the point and the heel. Corresponding with the area or the frown IIRC. Would have liked to have seen a before honing and polishing photo but too late now.

I see what you are saying about the toe and its flattened spine. I took the reflection along the top of the spine to be the new wear from its present honing.

If the blade were riding on that flat at the toe-spine would there not/should there not be a corresponding wide bevel at that section?

I don't know, I have one with a similar profile and at the point end it is wide on one side and narrow on the other. Also the glare in the photos may be distorting exactly what is going on and exactly how it is being honed can also effect the wear. Pressure and where the emphasis being placed by the hand that is doing the honing.

I can see it, but it doesn't look that bad to me. i do know spending that much time and having another problem but I don't think it looks that bad.
