Thread: Uneven number of passes...

Hey guys,

I was honing a 6/8 singing razor last night and got distracted while honing. I think I might have done about 10-15 more passes on one side of the blade than the other..I'm not sure though...What would you guys recommend?

Shave test.

Shave test wasn't great. I can tell that one side is not on the same level as the other one..

Go back to the 4K and do the circle technique as shown on the video on our home page followed by the 8K, 12K or finisher and then whatever paste you use. Strop and retest to make sure corrected.

Only problem is that I use a Coticule for honing. I don't have a 4k stone.

If the bevel is visually larger on one side than the other maybe do a bit more on the small side to even it out ? OTOH, sometimes it just bees that way. The lesson is don't get distracted while honing.

Heh I know. Hopefully I can fix it with some TLC.

Try doing the circles with a heavy slurry, followed by a light slurry and then water. It may take some tinkering, but you should still be able to correct it.

FWIW I have I razor that looked like this (at least to my paranoid eyes ) and I was worried about it for a while too. I put it to the back of my mind and kept on shaving with it, and it still shaves like a champ! YMMV and all that, but sometimes its not as bad as you think.

Dups, try some minimal honing techniques (like a touchup routine followed by heavy stropping) before dropping down to heavy slurry. It may work, it may not, but it's worth a try.
