MrMarx. As for taping, it will be pretty clear which razors will demand it from a cosmetic point of view & Damascus & /or worked spines fall into that category. The other reasons to use tape will become apparent eg setting a primary bevel without spine wear.
I bet when that Dovo Special is up to scratch you'll have a very different opinion. They are too good a shaver to "stuff up" for practice. I have some junkers here you can use to "hone" your skill. Gahh! that's a bad pun

All good Thanks for the replies gents. I knew the Livi's would be best suited to taping, but just wasn't sure if the addition of the tape would've been something Lynn would do before sending them to me, and, obviously whether or not this would have a discernable effect when I touch up WITH tape (think we discussed this already in person @onimaru55)...

Regardless, looks like I could well be making a return visit to borrow the old junkers you mentioned mate! And yes, the Dovo will be a good shave and that's another part of my plan - to get it perfect!

    Cheers,

Sure thing on the Livi's. The small 3/8 should be here within the next 6 weeks... However need to wait until December for the 7/8 Damascus abalone. Very excited!
