Thanked: 0Seen my chin??
Guys,
I have a question about razor honing. I honed several of my razors Sunday night. When I looked at them under the glass (never had need of a microscope) they all looked fine. I did not see any thing but good clean edges. When I shaved Monday the first razor was like cutting hot butter, just a great shave. Used the Boker today and lost a part of my chin on the first pass. It was not as sharp as it felt on my arm. On my arm it was dry shaving fine Sunday. It looked good under the glass, but reality was a shocker! What went wrong? I have not had this happen yet.

Probably used a scything motion and it removes everything in its way, whisker, flesh, et all. Sorry bout that. Make sure you never move the blade sideways on any protrusion. Dull or sharp blade; it matters not.

All the tests in the world are really only rough indicators to help in the honing process. Shaving is the acid test.
It could be it needs more work and it could be your technique failed you. try using it again. Just one straight stroke on the side of your face will tell you if its shave ready. If it feels fine then you can continue with the shave if not its back to the hone.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 0Just finished honing the Boker again. I don’t know what happened Sunday but I will let you know what happens in the morning. Started fresh with 4000and finished with 50 stropping strokes after the 8000. She feels and looks like she is battle ready. We will see.
I have not been able to pass the HHT with any razor yet. Maybe soon.

Good deal on fixing the edge of your razor. Quite a few of the members
have said the true test of shave ready is "will the razor actually shave".
Sounds to me like it's shave ready. Glad it all worked out.

STOP You say it gave you a great shave!!! Why would you go any further. That is the whole concept to get a great shave the HHT is a step back the ultimate test is the shave................

Ditto
If you're getting good shaves, the hanhing hair test might mess you up a bit, I think it has for me. You've done it, you're there, in ShaveLand. Enjoy it.
