Default to breadknife or not to breadknife

well the one razor that has been toying with me, i took a look at it under a scope, and low and behold i find some bad spots on the edge, so here is my question, do i breadknife it till it straightens out, or just work it on the 1k till i have clean metal. any suggestions

If you had to look through a scope then, you don't need to bread knife it...

Think huge frowns, or huge chips, when you start thinking bread-knifing....

+1 with what Glen said, just keep on honing until you get to good steel. Hope you do not have the case of devil's spit.

Another +1 to Glen's advice. If you can't see it with the naked eye just hone it on the 1k. Breadknifing creates more problems than it solves sometimes.

Aye Carumba! I'm gonna find who the person was who started this breadknifing thing and when I do...

Breadknifing is not a normal honing technique. It's the nuclear option and when a nuclear device goes off you know the aftermath.

I would personally do circles until it you get the bevel set, then do a few X strokes before progressing.

I've only BK'd one razor and it took FOREVER to fix...

I have run into a few razors the looked more like a serrated knife than a razor, the micro chipping just never went away. I was getting new chipping as I honed, I dragged the edge across the stone once or twice (with the edge, slicing) to get rid of the high points. One set of circles and no more problems Not sure if that would be considered BK or not, but it's a last frigging resort.
