Thanked: 1Did I make the right decision?
I recently sent my razor out to be professionally honed by a guy from the classifieds, I wont name names here to be polite. The razor is a year old and purchased from classic so it had never been honed before. I received my razor back a couple days ago and the blade didn't look quite right to me. The bevel wasn't even across the whole razor and the heel had some very faint glinting which was more evident after I shaved with it. Well, I sent back the razor the same day to the honemeister to get fixed up. He agreed to pay return shipping and kindly offered to touch it up for free.
I'm just wondering If I should have sent back to him or just kept my big mouth shut and kept the razor as it is. I feel like was a little anal about whole thing. I don't want to offend the guy that honed it, I just want to get my razor in tip top shape.
Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing?

I think that if you are not happy with a service, or product, you should talk to the vendor and attempt to fix it. It seems that is what you did too.
The policy of SRP is that vendor issues have to be resolved with the vendor. Posting complaints on the forum, usually in an attempt to influence the vendor and strongarming them to meet the customer's demand, is counterproductive.

Thanked: 1Ok, thanks for the input. I never even considered that I may be strongarming anyone on this forum. I wanted to keep everything as generic as possible in my post so that the vendor doesn't feel pressured if he reads it.

The best thing to do is to wait for the razor's return. If all is well it is only a minor inconvenience. The important thing is that because you weren't satisfied the honer is taking it back to redo it and covering return shipping. If it comes back satisfactory no worries. If it is not you have to let him know.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 3795You made no mention of how it shaved. Did you shave test it or simply send it back based upon its appearance? An uneven bevel is quite common as the grind of razors is rarely perfectly uniform. I don't understand what you mean about the "faint glinting" at the heel.

Thanked: 1When I shave tested the razor, I noticed that the razor grabbed a little when I was shaving the corner of my mustache with the heel. The rest of the blade felt just fine and was super smooth. After the shave, I checked the edge under a lamp and I noticed that the last 3/8th inch of the razor towards the heel was reflecting light under my lamp. That is when I sent the razor back.
The uneven edge wasn't really a determining factor in this at all, I just was hoping that if I sent back the razor, he could rework the heel and make that as smooth and sharp as the rest of the razor.

I don't think you know whether you're being anal or not. So I wouldn't worry about it.
I have a little experience honing. When I hone a razor for a beginner I'm usually surprised when I don't hear back from them, especially after they've shaved with it. Too much angle or bad stropping and it's toast.
I worry that too many people just accept the edge as is, even though they have problems.
