Also because it can produce a shaving edge, even if not the best shaving edge. And it is pretty hard to screw it up. Going back and forth between grits means you will eventually get a shaving edge without having to know exactly when to graduate to higher grits.

I think you lost sight of the original purpose for the pyramid. It gives you a dependable procedure for arriving at a good edge, eventually. It's also pretty quick if you're working with a dull Ebay razor.

I'm not saying you're wrong about the complex pattern. I'm just saying enough hasn't been done with it to know what is really going on. It's the type of thing I would love to try out and experiment with, but I just don't have that kind of time now. I wish you well.
