Thanked: 13245How about maybe defining the difference between the two...
Bread-knifing = A restoration technique used in the most extreme cases of edge re-building to re-establish actual blade geometry from bad frowns or bad chips... This is not a honing technique...
Jointing = The very very very light dragging of the edge over a very fine hone or even a Glass to smooth the edge before honing... Can be used to even up the very fine edge and to make sure there are no false positive tests before honing or at the final finishing levels...

This razor very well MIGHT be smoothed even more by the Jointing technique then a re-finish on the finest hone...
I emphasized the word might because I tend to agree that the razors all have different attainable levels of smoothness and sharpness and that one could be at it's max but the Jointing technique would prove that out...Last edited by gssixgun; 05-26-2010 at 04:20 PM.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions guys. When I've got time this weekend I'm going to put it under the microscope and hopefully I can determine whether there's a wire edge on it, or perhaps whether maybe when I first restored it I didn't go far back enough to get to good steel.
Those pictures in the honing study were quite informative thanks Glen.
