I went back and basically did the same thing in the first post. Except a little bit longer.

Say where I was doing 20 and diluting I did this about 8-10 times. Then I did about 80 on straight water. Felt a little better from the start. I also started with a lighter slurry.

But, it still wasn't quite feeling right. It wasn't really sharp enough.

I couldn't tell if it was lacking from the front end or the back end. (Slurry being front...water being back). Or somewhere in between.

For poops and grins I decided to try the pasted strop. I did about 20-30 swipes on there, rinsed it off then went to leather.

Swiped leg hair right off. Literally popping them and sending them flying.

I did about 15 more on the pasted strop. Not sure why. It almost felt like I lost it this time. So I did 10 more then did about 50 on my leather. Back to popping the hairs on the leg.

I have not shaved my face yet so...it may still suck at shaving.

I have done nothing but test razors that past two days and have shaved about 10 times in two days. Face needs a break.

Those of you that hone....how do you do it? I mean you shave test the razors you hone and you could have 20 people's razors at one time.

I've created quite the dilemma for myself. You see, I'm pasty white. But my leg hair has always kind of covered that. Well, testing these razors and lacking arm hair, I have been slicing the hair off of my leg. The left one to be exact. The front part is pretty darn smooth. Well, my cousin invites us to go to the lake on Monday.

    So...either I

    a) look stupid with one shaved leg
    b) look stupid with two shaved bright shiny legs
    c) look stupid wearing pants at the lake swimming area

Okay, if you say go back with light slurry. What would your progression be? 20-30 strokes, then dilute and do this 4 or 5 times? Or just one time w/ light slurry?

Listen n Learn? Look n learn?

    linen and leather.

Stroke count? look at the slurry- when it looks like there is enough dull mixed in with it start washing it. (dull has a gray/blackish tint)

    - 25 strokes, pressure lighter each time, wipe blade, add water

    check, shaves leg hair well

    - 25 strokes, even lighter pressure, wipe blade, add water
    - 20 strokes wipe blade. rinse coti of all slurry, wipe blade.

    water only

    - 50 very light strokes.

Originally the bevel was set and all using the unicot method with tape. Should I be using tape during the above or no or during some parts?
Seems to me that 50 strokes with heavy slurry and water addition at the end is very aggressive - depending on the stone. Same with 30 more with and water at the end and then 25 more...etc. You add water always at the end, yet the slurry is always getting dirtier.....

Whatever the case, it sounds like you're diverting considerably away from the Dilucot (or Unicot) method; not that that was your objective, but it is something to consider. And I agree - keep the tape.

No expert here - just relating my own experience.
