There is a difference in thickness and hardness of e tape. I have been using scotch 700. It seems to last longer on the hones. I think 3m has a 700 about the same. Now if I notice any tape on the hone at all, I know I am using to much pressure. Also regular laps once in awhile (like Glen does) keeps the rock clean and flat. :<0) It's those little things in the tutorials (if you pay attention) that really help. :<0)
