Default help honing a soligen razor

    Hi,
I've had a col. conk razor set for several years, it has a soligen blade, stone, and a reindeer hide/linen srop. For 4-5 years it was all I used to shave and it did well, but suddenly I can't seem to get an edge on it. Is it possible that it lost its temper somehow? It seems like it will sharpen up nicely, but I'll barely get started (one or two passes) and it's dull again.
    What gives?

Maybe I should just replace it?
I saw a brand "rooster and Hen" at Smoky mountain knife. Are they any good?
    Cheers,
    Pat

Welcome to SRP. Hard to say what is up with your razor. Chances are if it shaved well before it should shave well again. It wouldn't lose temper unless you exposed it to excessive heat. If you look at the SRP Classifieds member services you will find members who will hone your razor for a nominal fee.

I'm not sure what stone you are using but the SRP Wiki in the link below has tutorials on the various stones and how to use them. As far as the Hen & Rooster, the ones made in Solingen are good IME but the ones made in Spain are not so good according to what I've read. I've only used the Solingen made and read about the made in Spain razors.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Yes it is Possible.
if you able to post pictures of the blade we could answer to your question better.
Most likely your blade has been honed a lot.
    Example.
it is original size was 6/8 and now lets say 2/8 left. this blade will not get sharp enough to give you a good shave.
    hope this helps.
