    Default Thanks

I just wanted to say thanks to all the individuals that contributed all the great information on honing in the wiki and in this thread. I've been shaving witha straight for over two years now and I must say in all that time I was a bit hesitant to attempt to bring an vintage ebay special to shave ready condition myself. But with all of the great information posted here and in the wiki I was able to bring this razor to shave ready condition with two hones. And it shaved beautifully. Thanks to all who contribute

I'm surprised that no one has yet asked, "Which two hones?". Anyway, nice job bringing the heel into line.

Thanks Steven. The two hones I used were a King 1200 and a Norton 4/8k ( I guess that's technically three hones).
These old Shumate razors shave really nice but obviously someone had a heavy hand honing it before and created some kind of frown, or more like a smirk.

Congratulation with your honing success . it is great feeling.
Take a look razor and don't worry about the frown on the edge. try to fix the spine wear. if you will have same spine wear from heel to tip your heel problem will be fix. As you can see there is almost no hone wear where the largest portion of the blade. you will need to hone that part and make even bevel with rest of the blade. As soon as you rich that point you will see size of the blade will be equal in all length of the blade.
