Yeah, that's my man Mr. Met! So as a Met's fan I will get the correct advice right?

I was using the barber hone with a basic "X" stroke with lather. I have not tested the razor yet but will tomorrow. There is so many differing opinions on this subject it is insane. Some say paste, some say hone, some say both.

I am new to this process so it could make one's head spin. I guess from now on I will go to the paste first. When that no longer brings back the edge, I will go to the barber hone. That sounds reasonable right?

As a long-suffering Mets fan, you should probably take any advice I give you with the proverbial grain of salt... but bear in mind that I also have a small collection of quotes from "Anthem" on my other laptop.

This may the most helpful forum anywhere on the net. What may get confusing for newcomers is the wildly different advice that sometimes seems to come from all directions. Why? Because everyone's equipment, face, experience level and self-confidence level is different. Myself, I'm not a big barber hone guy. I've had several, unloaded most. I think that a Chinese 12k stone, roughly $20 at Woodcrafters, is more useful than a barber hone along with being more forgiving and easier to use.

That being said, there is a huge amount of expertise available here, free and happily given. Don't be afraid to experiment and have some fun. After all, this is shaving, not brain surgery.

Now, if we could just send Oliver Perez for some brain surgery ....
