The Kitayama 8k is also marketed as a 12k (don't ask) sometimes. It acts like a natural stone and works up a nice slurry. The Shapton 12k pro or 15k pro (US market, don't ask) cuts nicely and does not act like a natural stone. It does not require any soaking but it does load up requiring regular lapping with super-fine abrasive. They are both great stones.
