You leave it out to dry, because if you store it back wet, it will grow mold on it. After some 5 or so days, I think it is dry enough to store in the blue container...

I always stand my stones up against the mirror on my bathroom counter to dry and my Norton 4/8 still has some crud growing on the sides of it. It's yellowish and feels slimy under water. I scrub it off but it keeps coming back. I put the plastic box away when I got the stone and it hasn't seen it since. I'm considering using some bath and shower cleaner on the sides of the stone...

The bathroom is too humid to allow the stone to dry properly. So you store a relatively moist stone in an anaerobic environment, with organic contaminants unavoidable in a non-laboratory environment. That way you create the perfect conditions for anaerobic life, like mildew. I'd let it dry, wrap it in a paper towel (to keep the dust off) and leave it on top of the box lol.

Don't worry, soaking it in water again to clear the residual vinegar.

You could also do what I do. Sorry them in plastic leakproof juice container in water and a little bleach. This way they are always ready to hone and the bleach keeps anything from growing on it.
