Question DMT DuoSharp plus for lapping?

I've read that the DMT DuoSharp plus bench stone can be used to lap the Naniwa super stones (see this thread). But what if the stone used for lapping is slightly smaller than the stone you want to lap?

The reason I'm asking is that I bought a DMT DuoSharp plus stone, but when I came home, I realised that the DMT is almost the same size as the Naniwa stone. The DMT is 8" x 2 5/8" x 3/8" (203 mm x 67 mm x 9.5 mm). My Naniwas are 210 mm x 70 mm x 20 mm, so they are actually slightly bigger. Will this be a problem when lapping? Will I need to exchange it with a larger stone?

Use a figure eight pattern and circles.

I have the same one. 325 side is good for lapping, and 600 side is good for blades that need a lot of work.

Just make sure you break it in.

    Thanks!

I was worried that I would have to exchange it for the DuoSharp 10", which is slightly larger than the water stones, but is the 8" one is okay, I'll keep it. Do you use yours on Naniwas or similarly sized stones too?

Does the small patch of continuous zone grit affect the lapping?

    Thanks!

So the small zone of continuous grit doesn't impact the lapping? Just wondering, since most of the DMT stone is perforated, but a small zone is without perforations.

Not to worry. It'll work ok.
