Thanked: 3795I don't really slide my thumb on the blade at all. I just touch the thumb to the blade to feel for sticking. The funny thing is that, though I can't see any cutting at all, if I wash dishes after a long honing session, my skin swells up a little and then every single test becomes visible, revealing dozens of little slashes.
That stickiness results in the blade sinking imperceptibly into the skin even though you can't see it.

This needs a little more explanation i think.
as with my English i don't think i would be very helpful.
Suction--word, if you use while honing then i would understand but on checking sharpness of edge ?
This just confuses me.
i would say in my words
finer your edge gets you will feel your finger slides( could be wrong word) better.
tried my best .
I am sure more people will come and clear this up.
